How do I use Kindernet to search the Internet?

Kindernet only searches pages that are great for kids, so you can find what you are looking for faster.

To use Kindernet, just type the word or words you want to search for. If you search for

cats dogs

we will look for pages that have information about dogs and cats. If you want to search for the saying “raining cats and dogs”, you need to put it in “quotation marks” then we know you are searching for that phrase.

You don’t have to use capital letters, so you can search for cats or cATs and you will get the same results.

If you want to make sure that you don’t search for a word, put a minus (take-away) sign in front of it. So if you really don’t like cats, and just want to search for dogs, you can type:

dogs –cat

The minus sign means you will only see pages without the word cat in it. What’s wrong with cats anyway? We like them. If you search for cats, the result you will get is our Resource Page on cats.

What’s a Resource Page?

With some searches, the first result you will see is a Kindernet Resource Page. A Resource Page helps you find more about a particular subject online. It is created by a teacher, a parent or a child.

Can I make one?

Sure, anyone can make a Kindernet Resource Page (RP). Just do some research on a particular subject and then fill in our “Resource Template” page and presto! Your page is created.

For example, if you wanted to create a Resource Page (RP) on puppies, this is what you would do.

1. Check no one has done an RP on Puppies already, only one can be made for each word.

2. Find some good web-pages using Kindernet. Don’t forget to use Kindernet Picture Search as well.

3. When you have at least 5 good pages & a description, fill in the “Resource Template”.

It may take a few days to be included on Kindernet, but when our editors have had a chance to look it over, your page will come up on Kindernet when someone searches for puppies!

How can I add a site to Kindernet?

Have you seen a website that is not included in Kindernet’s search, and you think it should be? You can tell us about the site on our “suggest a site” page. We will then have a look at the page and if we agree with you, we’ll add it to Kindernet.
